There are a number of rooms offering dedicated play areas for each age group. The rooms are well laid out and offer a range of resources to support early learning.
Children will progress through the rooms depending on age and developmental needs.
This room is designed for our babies. It has a lovely homely feel with cosy corners, floor toys and treasure baskets which provides the babies with opportunities to explore, discover and rest. We also have a lovely sleep room containing cots which provide the children with a relaxing environment to sleep.
This room is designed for our toddlers. It has an imaginary area, home corner and construction area where children can use their imagination. Our toddlers also get lots of opportunities to take part in messy play where the children will take part in activities such as art and craft, water play and sand play.
In the Explorers and Adventurers your child will have the opportunity to explore the fun activities set out daily. They get daily opportunities to experience the outdoor environment through garden play and walks in the local area.
Daily activities are planned around each child’s individual needs and children are encouraged to make choices and decisions about what toys and activities they have throughout the day to encourage independence.
At Banbury Cross our staff will work with you to learn your child's routines and individual needs. Parents are given verbal and written feedback about their child at the end of each day.
This room is designed for pre-school age children. It is a lovely spacious room which provides the children with lots of room to move around freely.
There is a busy atmosphere where the children actively engage in exciting learning experiences. We are dedicated to maintaining an interesting and stimulating environment that encourages the children to adopt an enthusiastic approach to learning.
We encourage the children to become more independent in preparation for going to school. Staff ensure planning is flexible to meet the personal needs, interests and capabilities of each child and incorporate children’s ideas and contributions into future planning. Staff encourage the children to make choices, begin to realise and assess risk and evaluate their own learning. Children also have the opportunity to take part in more structured, adult lead activities.

If your child is aged under three years then the National guidelines Pre-Birth to Three: Positive outcomes for Scotland’s Children and Families shall be used to inform and support the care and learning of your child. This guidance recognises that critical learning takes place before a child is 3 and the experiences of children from Pre-Birth to Three can influence the rest of their lives.
By focusing on the four key principles, Rights of the Child, Relationships, Responsive Care and Respect and putting into practice the 9 key features, Role of Staff, Attachments, Transitions, Observation, Assessment and planning, Partnership working, Health and Wellbeing, Literacy and Numeracy, Environment and Play, staff shall carefully plan play activities both indoors and outdoors to nurture your child’s growth and development at this crucial time in their lives.
The Curriculum for Excellence
On reaching the age of 3 your child will transition to the Curriculum for Excellence, this National Curriculum represents Scotland’s vision for education of all children. It aims to raise standards, improve knowledge and develop skills. Ensuring that every child should experience a broad education that develops skills for learning, for life, and work with a real focus on literacy and numeracy and promotes an active and healthy lifestyle.
Through a play based curriculum staff will plan a wealth of opportunities outdoor and indoor supporting your child to express him/herself, build independence, solve problems, make choices and decisions and develop new skills.
